ATTI Mode Test Flight
Date: 9/28/2023
Objective: Reprogram flight mode switch on DJI Mavic 2 Pro and familiarize with ATTI mode flight
The first step in reprogramming the Mavic 2 Pro controller was downloading DJI assistant 2. Once downloaded, the app needed to be modified to allow the controller settings to be modified. To do this I went into the DJI assistant 2 appfiles main file and opened with notepad. Using control F, I located the line of code controlling developer tools. The line read // Open the Devtools, and by removing the // I was then able to access the devtools function. I then plugged the DJI Mavic 2 Pro into my computer. On the home page for DJI Assistant 2 under Local Storage and files://, I switched debug:0 to debug:1. I then selected the Mavic 2 file on the home page. Once here I clicked on the parameters tab, and used control F to locate fswitch_selections_config_control_control_mode[0], which was set to 12 (the OPTI mode parameter). By switching this value from 12 to 3 this mode now become ATTI mode on the switch.
In the field I had three main objectives: familiarize with ATTI mode, test RTH capabilities in ATTI mode, and test if the drone switches to position mode after flying a certain distance away. For the first 20 minutes of flight, I performed various flight maneuvers such as boxes and circles to get comfortable with ATTI mode. I then attempted an auto RTH in ATTI mode, to which the drone promptly completed the task, only landing about half a meter behind target causing me to abort landing. Now that I was comfortable with ATTI mode, I flew the drone up to 390 meters to maximize distance and clearance above the tree line, and began flying away while keeping the camera pointed at a 45 degree angle to monitor for people. the drone flew a horizontal distance of about 3700 feet without switching to P mode, at which point I began flying back home to maintain visual line of sight.
